Colibri Lighter problem...wrong butane?

I stopped in a local B&M to take a look at lighters since my new IM Double Corona was swipped (covered in another thread!). Anyway, the selection of soft flame lighters was a little weak. I ended up picking up a fairly inexpensive ($32) Colibri (no box/paperwork included), so not really sure how old the model is, though it does show the number 780 on the bottom, so I guess that's the model. It worked fine at the store, giving me a nice large soft flame. The store filled it up with butane (brand unknown) when I bought it. Not long after I got home I tried it and noticed the flame was tiny, and the flame adjuster only allowed a maybe 1/2" flame at best.

I did some Googling and decided to purge the lighter of all the butane and refill. I have Zippo "Premium" Butane Fuel that I've used without any issues on my 2 Scorch torch lighters. First off, anyone know if the Zippo butane is good enough quality for the Colibri lighter? Maybe that's the problem? I've read about 3 or 4x refined fuels and maybe the Zippo fuel is too dirty for the Colibri? Or is it some other internal issue with the new lighter, though it worked fine at the store before the refills.

Thoughts?

I've owned a couple of Colibri's and regardless of the quality of butane they tend to die a fast death. Certainly wouldn't hurt to try a Xikar or other high end fuel.

I use a 5x fuel on everything..but that's the first can of butane I bought after getting into cigars, and it's lasted nearly a year. I have a couple of cheaper Colibri that work fine with the fuel, but I don't use them often just because I've settled on my Lotus as my favorite. One has been used in "emergency" lost lighter situations by cigarette smokers around the house, though, and haven't heard of any problems with it.

I do know the Colibri fuel has been crap, so don't try buying that and using it. It has been pretty bad in any lighter I've put it in.

Sometimes its the lighter other times its the fuel. I have a xikar dual flame that will run on just about anything. But when I used the Ronson fuel on a nee single xikar it didn't work right. I bought a can of Xikar fuel now all lighters work great and I try to use up that Ronson fuel on the duel flame so its not wasted.

Thanks for the input guys, much appreciated. I may try a high end butane, otherwise it's only going to be good for cigarettes (which no one in the house smokes) or maybe lighting the occasional candle.

I wouldn't blame it on the fuel at this point. That usually takes a bit of time for cheap fuel to foul the jets, not right out of the box. My vote is for taking it back.
