I have to vent about this. I'm smoking a fine RP Vintage 92 and enjoying it. I've got a couple of shots of single malt in me and I am starting to relax.

Here's the story. I ordered a box of Padron 2000's Naturals from TNT (Which is a great company)

Anyway, the delivery date was supposed to be today. Waited 5 days for ground shipping though UPS.

So I check my tracking number online today and everything is fine. My package is out for delivery.

I wait and wait and finally at 4 P.M. I call them and ask them what's going on.

"Oh, the truck is out making deliveries and for ground shipments they have till 7 P.M. to make their delivery."

So I wait an hour and am getting more and more anxious. so I call them again at 5 and again they tell me the same thing. I check the tracking number online and all seems legit.

Now it's 6 P.M. and once again I call and once again I get the same answere and online everything seems to be on time and my package isout for delivery.

Finally 7 P.M. arrives and still no package. I check the tracking number online and now the status has changed to:

"THE PACKAGE WAS MISSED AT THE UPS FACILITY, UPS WILL DELIVER ON THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY"

So I call them again and this time the girl on the other side listents to my tirade ( I told her that I wasn't angry with her personally)

She tells me that she has now put in a message into their computer to track down my package and have the local distribution center call me the following morning to let me know when my package will arrive. She also appologized for their screw up and we got off the phone.

10 minutes later I have the Chantilly distribution center calling me and letting me know that they don't know where my package is exactly but it is in the local warehouse and that if I don't see it early on in the day I should call them and have the "flag" the package.

What pissed me off is that they tried to blame the vendor (which I know didn't screw up) but nevertheless I'm sitting here without my package and not knowing when I'll actually see it.

It's been in transit for quite some time now plus at least an extra day because of UPS's screw up and you know that those stogies are sitting around somewhere drying up.

I know no one wants to read this post but I had to vent because I am pissed off with UPS.

I emailed TNT to let them know what was going on and that UPS was attempting to shift the blame on them and I begged them to switch to either DHL or USPS Priority mail.

We'll see what happens tomorrow but right now I'm angry, need to vent, and am slightly tipsy but I am really loving my goodnight cigar RP Vintage 92.

So all is not lost but I've had a crappy day because (like I told the main UPS office) I've been held hostage all day by a guy in an ugly brown truck which never showed.

Also, they only posted the problem after their local office had closed it's phone lines and basically shut down for the day.

:gn UPS

I'm :c to and extreme degree but maybe (I hope) tomorrow everything wil be resolved.

That's the end of my venting rant. Sorry for the long post but I had to tell someone and I know you guys understand exactly how I feel about this.

How hard can it possibly be for them to deliver a package (which is tracked by computers now) to a simple residential address? UGH, I'm just really angry with UPS.

The guy on the phone from my local distribution office wasn't even sure if the package was in the warehouse or on one of the returning trucks. :hn

For everyone who might read this, never use UPS always go with either a competitor or just use USPS Priority.

I know how it goes with shipping companies.. I had a debacle with UPS last Christmas on a gift that was late...

Everything is going to be alright. Your cigars shouldn't be dried up even a week in transit. If for some reason they are, I'm sure TNT will work with you to get replacements.

Good luck. I hope those cigars are waiting for you tomorrow.

Well after reading your post, you have every reason in the world to be irate! I agree though, UPS is probably my least favorite service to use. I prefer DHL, have never had a problem with them on shipping anything!

Thanks.

I'm sure that everything will eventually work out but TNT shouldn't have to be responsible for UPS's screw up.

Oh well, I feel better just getting this off my chest.

join the club of UPS haters. They're always losing my stuff. I would be more worried about beetles though than drying out. I haven't ordered anything from TNT but most companies I order from put some kind of humidity pillow in with the stogies in case delivery times run long.

It's good to order all your stogies in the winter time though, so you can avoid any of these issues during the summer months. :)

Yeah, I'm worried about beatles too.

I can't blame TNT though because they really go above and beyond the call of duty with their customer service and excellent prices. I like dealing with them I just HATE UPS and I think that they should return the money they took for this f'ed up delivery.

I guess I am lucky, I have had enough packages delivered that the UPS guy knows me. They always, I mean always, deliver my packages between 10:30am and 11:00am. It is like clockwork. I guess I live in his morning delivery area and if I am outside on the street (lets say having a smoke) and he sees me, he will even stop to drop off my package even if I am not next in line.

I once had a UPS package mis-routed and I called up and they had no clue where it was. It was suppose to be in SF and it said something like NJ. While I was emailing the vendor, the package amazingly just showed up.

Unfortunately, this happens with all delivery companies! I have had USPS packages mis-routed. DHL now has a 2-day delivery that is considerably cheaper than the other companies, but some people don't like them as well. I guess it is bound to happen when you deliver large quantities of packages everyday.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I know how frusterating it can be to wait home all day for packages. Your cigars should be fine for an extra couple of days and if not, it is not your fault. The vendor should make good on the situation. For all you know, they put the wrong address down and that caused the delay. At least when a package is lost by UPS, they have a tracking number and can go from there. When the USPS loses a package, you have nothing.

I live 1 block from the UPS place, but unfortunately the route starts in the other direction so I am last on the list lol. My packages always arrive between 6 and 7 pm tho so not usually that bad.

Tuneman, if you are a residential address, you get your packages that late because we deliver businesses first.

No1der, I have a hard time even responding to you, because it looks like you have some sort of personal vendetta against UPS. But because I always go the extra mile for our customers, I will give it a shot:

UPS is the largest package delivery company in the world. We deliver many millions of packages each day, and unfortunately, we have lots of humans in the process, and humans make mistakes. However, despite delivering more than DHL or FX, we miss fewer than either of them.

Now, I am sure you wouldn't have wanted your vendor to use DHL 6 months ago when they couldn't complete 50% of their pickups on a daily basis, would you? I mean, how shitty would you feel right now if they still had your package at TNT?

Regardless, if you shoot me a pm with your tracking number early enough this morning, I will call to personally check on the delivery status of your package.

For all the UPS haters....I've had the exact problem with DHL, FedEX, and the USPS. Because UPS is the biggest, its got a target on its back...just like Microsoft.

They all have issues, but in my experience, UPS is better by FAR than the others and I select them everytime, given the chance.

Just my :2
:tpd:

Today it's UPS, two days ago it was DHL, next week what will it be FedEx or USPS. Mistakes are made no system is perfect because they were designed and run by us imperfect human beings.

SHIT HAPPENS

...but man I would be pissed too.
and what better place to rant then here. Where everyone can appreciate/or should I say have empathy for what you are going thru.

Good luck with your shipment and I agree with you on the fact that an RP V92 is a very good smoke (IMO)

If you really want to know why the problem exists, just go visit a UPS center. I had the "privaledge" of visiting a UPS center while trying to personally look for my $3000 turntable they lost.

While there, I saw numerous trucks pull in and have all their packages thrown onto the conveyer. When I mention thrown, I mean thrown >10 ft, with box after box slamming into the conveyer. Also, I would estimate that 10% of boxes missed the conveyer or bounced off the conveyer and hit the floor.

While looking at random boxes under the conveyers on the floor for my lost package, I saw hundreds (YES, hundreds) of boxes that had been there a very long time. It was obvious that some of these boxes were thrown off the conveyer and were sitting there for many months! No-one wanted to help and no-one gave a crap about any of the lost, damaged packages laying all over the place.

I hear the excuses (system run by humans...), but the reality is that it is a system run by people who do not give a sh*t, managed by incompetent people who do not give a sh*t, lead by an organization that does not give a sh*t. Yeah, I know this is just one data point, and I have no way of knowing if UPS is better/worse/similar to DHL or USPS, but what I saw was inexcusable.

Oh, BTW, my turntable turned up a couple days later. Apparently it was not the building they thought it was.

Understandable being upset with not receiving your package, but personally I've ad much less problems with UPS than anyone else.

I used to run a shipping department in my old position, I've seen some seriously f'd packages. A Fedex shipment, a several grand computer monitor, looked like they literally dropped it from a plane as it passed over the delivery site. Imagine a 2' cube that got placed into a trash compactor, it honestly looked like an accordian. Ever try and get your insurance money from them hahahahhahaha.

DHL, meaningless pickup times...if they come at all. They always expected me to unload their truck for them as well which was.. different.

UPS, yeah they've jacked some stuff up in the past they even lost a skid of 9-14 packages all valued at ~40k a piece. Luckily they found them and mde good on it.

Finally, the shipping software for UPS is superior in most every way to the software that fedex was using at the time.

I confident that you will receive your package today :ss

I feel your pain. I for one despise UPS and try to avoid using them at all costs. Ground service is slow, they frequently miss the scheduled delivery date, and the packages always look like they've been run over by the brown truck. I try to use USPS whenever possible. For a buck or two more, I get my packages in 2 to 3 days instead of a week, and they arrive in perfect condition. cheers

I've had the best luck with UPS. Fed Ex and DHL can't find my house which is right on a US Hwy, 100 feet off the road in plain sight with my address posted on a fence post and mailbox. On my last cigar order, I asked the vendor to put "house on north side of highway" on the box. I get a call from the DHL driver, "where are you?". Uhhh, north side of highway. He pulls in two minutes later saying he was having a heck of a time finding my place. "North side of highway" is written on the shipping label and on the box. I give up:confused:

Sadly, as much as I dislike (not completely hate) UPS, I know their system well enough to know what happens in there. I used to work at CACH for UPS (RaiderinKS might know about that site) and it was a hell hole, but regardless of the amount of work or problems, we did whatever it took to get those packages into the right trucks and off and running to the next location. Yes packages do get damaged, misrouted or in a few cases, destroyed. Yet the overall majority of them are routed properly and do get sent out on time. There are a lot of humans involved, and UPS has worked to lower the amount of people touching each package. Would I send stuff through UPS, maybe not, but it is a devil I know and I can live with that. All package transportation compnaies have similar problems, regardless of their size.

Regardless, I do hope you get you package soon.

It's one day, dude. Chill out and have a smoke! :ss I've had more problems with the USPS than UPS in my experience. No service is infallible. I bet it shows up today.
:tpd:
It was mentioned elsewhere here in this tread about a visit to a UPS center. If they were throwing packages 10ft, it may have been because one conveyor was broke down.
I have worked in UPS centers installing conveyors. The goal is to keep the package on a belt from the back of the truck bringing the package to the UPS center untill loaded on to the truck leaving the center. Its ergonomics, a worker can sort a lot more packages by sitting the package on a belt that is 2 feet away than one that is 10 feet away.

I am happy to report that the package was just delivered to me and so far I don't see any beatle holes or damage.

Had I not gone off on UPS last night I think I would have had a stroke. Just too many problems in the course of one day that UPS was the one that bore the full front of my fury.

I'm still not happy about it being late a whole day and that when I called up yesterday repeatedly I was told that "everything is ok, just be patient" when in fact nothing was fine and all the patience in the world wasn't go to fix yesterdays F**k up.

Anyway, I appreciate everyone who posted their thoughts and very much appreciate the PM's that were sent.

Thank you to all and I no longer "HATE" UPS but it will be a while before we're a couple again. :ss
