ya its fun to watch when you know what everyone has for cards. I would like to go to Foxwoods (closest casino to me) someday and play. I know all the different poker games but have never played for real. I think I would get taken to school. Poker, how is it. Is it real cutthroat or is it leisurely when you play at the casino. i would assume the bigger the stakes antes etc. t he more tension.
if you like poker and gambling and everything that goes with it as much as i do, then you should check out the show Lucky that is on FX now. the season is over but i am sure they will show reruns. great show, very funny stuff on there!
One more piece of advice I'd give you...don't let the screaming idiots at the tables intimidate you. I never would have expected some of the behaviors I witnessed at the tables, especially players cussing each other out or raising a ruckess!
finally went this Friday night, played in a $30 Act1 tourney and I WASNT THE FIRST ONE OUT!!!!! I made it to the final 5 and was knocked out.
Shoulda been out second, I was on the short stack and went all in (wow I learned the lingo from watching the show) with suited K & 3, the person I was against had a pair of Aces, I got a 3 on the flop, and to my amazement got another 3 on the river. I think thats when I was hooked.
Went and played on a low limit table so as to not lose alot after that and lost my shirt. But it was fun and I am now hooked and will be back next weekend. Is it me or is it really difficult to bluff on a low limit table?
The most fun I've ever had at a casino by far!! The only thing that sucked was the poker room at Foxwoods is non-smoking.
Its impossible to bluff others into folding on a low limit table. Think about it...
You're in 2/4 game sitting 3 down from the button with Ac-Ah. The flop came 7h-Kc-Ad with the turn card & river still to come. 7 guys left in the game including you & you're sitting with a "set" (aka trip's) & the best hand....for now. Its bet & called in front of you, nobody mucks their hand. You raise it on your turn. Do you actually think the guy with pocket Jacks and the other guy with 2 diamonds and a prayer for a backdoor flush are gonna fold for 2 or 4 more bucks? It aint gonna happen my friend.
In low stake games, the wager is low enough to where many folks will play a bad hand they should toss just on prayers the poker gods will smile on them this one hand. Thats what makes the lower stake tables harder to win at than the higher stake games.
An A-9 off suit are crap hole cards and will normally be tossed in a 8/16 or 10/20 game , but most everyone will play them in a low 1/2 or 2/4 limit game.
One of the most powerful tools in poker is bluffing. Remember, its the ultimate game of deception. When you take the ability to bluff out of the game, you have to just "hope" the cards are falling in your favor, and to "hope" in a poker game is a bad habit & will cost you dearly in the long run.
Sorry for the ramble LOL! Glad you got your feet wet & hope future chips fall towards your stack.
congrats on your semi-good fortune.
i went to foxwoods once, didnt quite care for it. i like craps and they play there with low odds, so it's tough to make a big hit, or get a table really hot. also i noticed that the native americans weren't too happy when they saw you win. at least other places i have been they fake their enthusiasm for a player that is winning.
Poker, ramble on anytime. I can understand what your saying totaly, after watching the action at Binions this year. Moneymaker is PROOF balls&luck can get you a lot in that game. One day you teach me to be the Moneymaker breaker?
Actually, I usually try to avoid playing poker for "fun" although I still do it once in a while. I found it teaches me too many bad habits that I carry over to a money table.
When theres nothing or little to lose, I play differently.
I guess its like Fantasy Stock Investment. When its not "real", the level of risk one will take changes.
