i was in toronto last month for some training, and since the leafs weren't on the ice(another sore subject), i thought i'd indulge in my other passion.I tried my first Cuban, the above mentioned H Upmann.Now, at the risk of be flamed within an inch of my life,I wasn't knocked out.Don't get me wrong,it was a good smoke,but it didn't impress me as any better than some non-cubans I've smoked.So what's the fuss about? should i have tried something else?

Not surprized that you were not impressed with the Upmann CM. This is a one dimensional, fairly rustic smoke. Even with serious age on them they are still mediocre at best.

These and the RyJ Deluxe tubo are pretty so-so, but I've smoked a few when out in a bar (overseas), with no cigar. A lot of bars seem to carry these in their "humidor". They'll do in a pinch! I think most that I've had were machine made.
