Is it just me, or are ring bands getting bigger? Note the new CAO Mx2's...the band is huge.

Is this a growing trend, or isolated gimmick?

Seems so. Double bands and single bands that take up the same amount of space as double bands seem to adorn a lot of new cigars. La Aroma de Cuba, Torano Exodus, CAO Brasilias, Punch Grand Cru, Punch Gran Puro all come to mind. I find double bands a bit irritating. I usually remove the second band immediately. IMO, the double band and huge band deal is just a way for you to smoke less of a cigar perhaps in the hopes of getting you to buy more. A lotta good tobacco gets covered in advertising space. I can't claim to know the mind of the manufacturers and marketing people so this just conjecture. Happily, getting rid of the band is no big deal.

Right on Eichen. I bought an Aroma De Cuba 7.5X54 at the Casino last week and I only smoked a third of it and had to remove the band to keep going. Oh and by the way it was awful the thing tunneled out and I ended up with an ice cream scoup.

Their does seem to be a trend toward large and double cigar bands. I find them to be kinda ugly. In some cases, as the Opus and Padrons a fancy band serves as protection, I like them, especially the anniversary Padron bands.

I smoke a lot of Brazilias and the novelty of the big band wore off boxes ago. I wish CAO would shrink the band and make it unique some other way. The cigar does the talking, not the band.

Yes, but huge cigars like that would look kinda funny...like a Sumo wrestler in a thong bikini:r .

Yeah, those LFDs are HUGE. I find it hard to belive that very many people smoke cigars that are that large, or am I the only one

I've tried them both and they were good smokes. I could definitely do without the ring size.

Its not just the size of the band, some of thoes things are damn near impossible to remove without a knife. I have found some with bands that wont slide off or peel off without difficulty. I have nicked a lot of wrappers trying to remove the bands, not much more irritating than wrecking a smoke to remove a band.:sb

I usually leave the band on for awhile and let the heat from the cigar loosen up the glue, it usually works well for me.

I use the same approach as above and simply do not worry until I'm about to smoke the band.

I've found another legit excuse to go have a smoke in the garage.

Take the ring bands of your favorite cigars and shellack them to a medium size piece of pine or other wood to hand on the wall of your smoke spot.

Nice project, and you can smoke while your working on it!!
