Hey guys does anyone know of a forum that that would be similar to club stogie that deals with pipes and pipe smoking? I've done a couple web searches and have come up with a few that are not real active. I only have one inexpensive pipe that I bought a while back pretty much for a novelty and something different, but after all those trips to the tobacconist and walking past the pipe display I want to learn more...like how to keep the thing lit.

At the risk of uncloaking myself as a pipe smoker...

I only know of one board for pipe smokers. There may be more but I surely don't know of them (I'm wrong see below).

Here's a few sites you may find handy:

Alt.smokers.pipes (ASP), a sister discussion board to ASC...

There's also their FAQ...

The ASP webpage...

The expansive pipes.org website...

I just found this at pipes.org -- a discussion board

You'll find this handy when you want to check up on new tobacco. Reviews from smokers like you and I.

Keeping a pipe lit is a matter of practice. I've found that just about every variety of tobacco likes to be packed in a certain way to promote this. It usually takes 2-3 bowls of a new variety of tobacco for me to get it right. Hang in there! The biggest downside to pipesmoking is all of the fussy technique and equipment.

Pipe smoking is great for winter. There are several distinct advantages to pipes over cigars in my opinion. You can pack as much or as little as you want in the bowl. You can let it go out before entering a non-smoking building then light up again after leaving without getting the nasty ammonia thing going on. Heck sometimes a pipe is better after letting it sit for a period of time (hours or even days -- this is called "DGT" or delayed gratification technique) after having lit it the first time. It's cheaper and often times more consistent. Storage is easy. Plus, people don't seem to get their undies in a bundle quite as much as they do when you produce a cigar from your pocket.

Good luck and happy smoking!
