I was given a box of these by my fiancée for Christmas, among other cigar related things. Oh yeah, she's definitely a keeper! :D Anyway, I decided to take this stick out and fire it up while I read over my criminology text book. Doubtful smoking and studying go hand in hand, but it made for a stressless study session.

The Padron Palmas measures in at 6 5/16 x 42. Really, it's a longer version of the Londres. It has a nice dark wrapper with more a rustic look. No pretty veinless oily wrapper, but a dark maduro with visibly veins. Don't think it's ugly, though, it's still a nice looking cigar. Plain, simple, and delicious.

I decided to try the three match method of lighting it up. Lit a match, toasted the foot until the match was too short to hold. Lit another match, continued to toast the foot until it had started to light and burn, turning the cigar to keep the burn even. Last match made sure everything was properly lit and blew on the foot to make sure everything was burning even. Cut the cap with a new Xikar I got and took a puff.

Now I'm not sure if the new method of lighting has any real bearing on taste, but it did seem to taste nicer than usual, or maybe it was just that I took my time to enjoy the whole ceremony. No huge billows of smoke, but still a nice amount, and plenty of flavor. Medium bodied Padron goodness, which translates into coffee, chocolate, and a little earthy aftertaste. It was like smoking a mocha espresso.

The cigar didn't really change flavors much. The further down I went it got sweeter, but mainly the coffee/chocolate you'd expect from Padron maduros. About halfway down I got more earthy flavors in the aftertaste, but no huge flavor changes. I did taste something I couldn't put my finger on that was sweet and creamy that mixed well with the coffee/chocolate taste.

Construction is top notch as always. Padron is known for excellent quality, consistency, and flavor. This was no exception at all, and burned evenly throughout. The ash stayed an inch before dropping, though I usually didn't let it last longer than an inch before gently ashing it.

It isn't a very complex smoke, but it's a flavorful and consistent one. It tasted about the same as the one I had back at Christmas, though a little smoother with the time it's been sitting. I'd guess and say I wouldn't let these sit in my humidor for more than a year, though I have yet to let any of my Padrons sit for more than six months before I crack and light one up. Good flavor, great consistency, and excellent price. 8/10

Re: Padron Palmas Maduro w. pics

Great review, ShaulWolf! I have a Padron Maduro cooling in my Humi that I'll try over the next few weeks. The Padron 2000 natural was one of my first smokes and still remains one of my all time favorites. I'm looking forward to the Sancho you traded with me. Please let me know how you liked the Gurkha! Have a good one and good luck in school! Take care!!!:tu

The Padron Classic line is still my favorite medium bodied blend. I find the exact same flavors as you with little to no spice and just smooth flavors. I also find the thinner gauges to taste, and smoke better than anything over the 2000.

Nice review.
