You are in the middle of shipping paradise.

Take a walk and check out the Marina and boats. Go for a boat ride.

Go to the beach or eat in an outdoor cafe. Lots of shops as well.

Definately...hit up a lot of the good coastal food and port sites. I'm not the world's biggest fan of New England in general, but I love the coastal scenery of Portland, ME and other areas of the like.

Ive lived in RI for a few years now and have been to Newport a bunch. Never done the mansions, but cliff walk is pretty cool. It takes you past the mansions along the ocean--nice and scenic. Also scenic is Beavertail which is in Jamestown (just over the newport bridge). I LOVE Beavertail. Lots of great trails for hiking around and awesome ocean views. Newport has a lot of shops and some decent restaurants. I stick to the lower budget fare and always try to hit up the Smokehouse (not cigars) for barbecue...Ill try to think of some more stuff and pm you.
