OK guys, my interest has been peeked on these and its difficult to find info about them. So while I'll ask questions they may not get to what I'm looking for, in other words, if anyone can direct me to a thread that lays it out that would probably be very helpful.

I'm familiar with Carlos Fernandez variety by name only but are others that don't say a name all potentially different?
Is there a standard offering or do different vendors offer different blends?
Anyway if anyone can enlighten me that would be awesome.

The custom rolls offered by vendors are all different from each other! Then there are custom rolls picked up on trips to Cuba and various LCDH's across the world. To be honest very few live up to the hype that surround them. Me i am a regular production line type of guy. Even EL's and RE's are seldom worth the extra scratch IMHO. These type of cigars Custom Rolls and RE's EL's are for those that have large quantities of stash. Lots of experience with Cuban Cigars. They get bored with what is redily available and look to branch out and experience new tastes flavors blends. I say when you have a couple of thousand well aged Cuban Cigars laying around. Then if your getting curious try custom rolls. The ones you buy through your vendors are not really anything special IMHO. The ones you seek are ones right off the island. These are available by making the trip. Having friends that make the trip and bring some back. And trusted friends that are into it themselves and willing to help out with avenues of acquisition.

Almost forgot if your looking for names of rollers!
Hamlet, Reynaldo, La China ,Handsome Jimmy, Carlos Fernandez Martinez, That should keep ya busy for a while.
My favorite roller of all time Rudolpho Toboada has retired because of health issues every once in a while his cigars were indeed magic!

Johnny-O's are farm rolls. They are much cheaper than the ones named by Tony above, but aren't in the same league as the ones named by Tony above.

Tony how could you forget the M**** PDR (Cannot give out full name due to it listing a vendor)? Yeah probably because they are no longer available due the vendor being stupid. Without a doubt some of my favorites are the Carlos Fernandez, Reynaldo, and M***** PDR custom rolls. Although I do have some Hamlet custom rolls, I've yet to smoke one.

To be honest David i purposely didn't mention them. Because i really did not care for them or the controversy that surrounded them.

With custom rolled cigars, you pay a premium for the skill of the roller. The named rollers, who Tony mentioned , spend more time and have a greater skill set than the factory rollers. The X factor is the tobacco used. If they work with great tobacco, the results are phenomenal. Otherwise, you have a beautifully rolled ordinary cigar.
One last point, if you've never had a Cuban cigar fresh off the tables, you're missing something.

What do you know, me too!

My one only experience with a CC custom was the recent *** Sublimes but it was a weird experience. Sort of NC like. A nice smoke but not what I was expecting, TBH.

FYI, I don't think Johnny rolls any of his cigars. They are mostly farm rolled, and that means the quality of the rolling will probably be slightly inferior to factory rolled cigars. Everyone has their own experience with these, but not my cup of tea.
In terms of quality, there isn't much comparison between a cigar rolled by Hamlet or La China versus a farm rolled, unless you find some of the Padrinos Don Alejandro rolled...

Again, depending on the farm, the tobacco could range from poor to excellent.

Without trashing Johnny O's, the price he's paying in Cuba for a farm rolled cigar is a pittance.

I am still excited having never really tried any customs before. If anything, I think it will be an experience and perhaps a starting point to greater things in the future. We all have to start some where.

This is exciting, like when the time the NC door got flung open and it was a whole new journey.
