Just replaced the steering gear box last week, scheduled to have the ball joints and alignment done Thurs, and still need to get the manifold studs drilled out and exhaust manifold reattached. Now the leaf spring shackle bit the dust.

I think it may be time to loosen up the purse strings and get a new truck.

Anyone have any experience with the Titan or Tundra? I'm guessing the reviews will be all positive.

Friend owns the Tundra.
Has had numerous trucks before.
Swears it is all he will ever own again.

I'm saddened by this news.

However, if you are heart-set on leaving your Ford, my next choice would be the new Chevy. My cousin purchased one just a few days ago, crew cab, black, 4x4, 4.x V8 and it is nice! It takes a lot for me to say that, but after a night of fishing, he let me drive it home and I liked it a lot! If I weren't buying American, I would go with the new Tundra CrewMax. The Titan is the ugliest thing I have ever seen in my entire life.

Or you can wait until the new Fords come out next year. ;)

From bad to worse?!? :D

The Ford has been, by far, the best domestic vehicle anyone in my family has owned. This is counting numerous Rams, Suburbans, Intrepid/Concord/300M, Pacifica, etc. It just can't come close to my 90 Nissan 240sx or the 90 Nissan pickup.

While I'd love to stay Ford, I just can't stand working on the damn things anymore. I need something reliable. Plus, both the Tundra and Titan are made in America...which may or may not be a positive.

I have had two back to back Explorers that have been completely trouble free. I swear by Ford although you can see minor quality issues here and there. Not enough to make me dislike the truck. Has not cost me a penny in repairs in five years and nearly 50,000 miles, other than tires and breaks.

I would get a Tundra in a heart beat, but because I'm stationed in Monterey and live in San Jose, the commute would suck both for mileage on a new truck and gas prices. When I'm out of the Air Force, I'm getting a Tundra for sure, TRD packaged one to boot.

You're a lucky dude Carlos. Had an 02 and 04 or 05 in the family. 02 got new tranny, rear end, rear springs, leaky sunroof, and had many electrical demons. My other brothers wasn't as bad...only needed new rear calipers and a new rear end. He has yet to replace the busted rear spring. Both are only grocery getters.

Don't get me wrong though guys....I'd love to get a new or newish F150, I could save a lot of money over the Tundra/Titan. I just don't feel like spending any more on towing/repairs.

Yikes!!!
Sure have been lucky then.
My first one was a V6 - had it for five years.
This one is the V8 - have had it for nearly five years now also.

I hear most of the problems Explorers have had have been with the V6 and not the V8.
I do feel a bit roughness in shifting at times but the other one was the same.
The one thing that truly sucks about them is re-sale value if you don't plan to keep it long term.
Amazing how they drop in value v. a foreign truck.

Toyota or Nissan.

I don't think you can go wrong with either. Both are good trucks.

They both will last you a lifetime and give you a great ride.

I am not a Ford man. I can say from experience and with family owning a GMC Dealership that these trucks are work horses. Also they have so many rebates and deals on them you can get them with a $5000.00 rebate and at 0% financing. They are giving them away. Something you will never see in the foriegn car market.

My suggestion, go test drive them all and see what fits you.

Yup...the more troublesome of the two was a V6.

And I hear you on the drop in value. There are 04-05 F150 4x4s with 50-60k going for around $13-15k around here. For a similar Tundra/Titan...well, double that price...if you can even find someone selling one. I guess that says a lot right there.

Yeah...despite having larger interior dimensions...I nailed my head getting out of both the Tundra and the Titan. Life would be a lot easier if I could shrink a few inches and just get a little Tacoma. :c

Adam, I have a good friend in NE Ohio who is sales manager at a Toyota dealership. I can pass you his info if you would like. It isn't that long of a drive from Buffalo, and if he can save you a few thousand dollars, it might be worth it. PM me if interested.

.
You're the man Todd. I'll be doing some research for a while and take a good soild inventory of everything I need to replace on my truck....but I will most definitely take you up on that offer when the time comes. I just hope you don't get booted off F150online for being an accomplice!

Be sure to test drive the heck out of what ever you're interested in. I didn't. I just did a mini-drive in a 2006 Tacoma and counted on all the hype about Toyota quality, blah, blah, blah. I sure wish I had my 2003 Dodge diesel back. The V6 Tacoma with auto transmission has the strangest, most aggravating and annoying shifting of any vehicle I've ever owned and the goofiest, most erratic cruise control. Put both of these together and it's really annoying. All I get from Toyota is a "that's normal". Looks to me like Toyota has become fully "Americanized".

Perhaps the Tundra will be better but I wouldn't be buying a V8 Tundra for the gas milage.

I only regret I didnt buy a diesel.

The Dodge has a limetime drive train guarantee now.

My family is hardcore Ford, that being said, the new F250's-F450's are work horses. I have abused theirs and they are awesome.

Maybe something cheaper would work so you can buy that kayak.:tu

I have owned chevy, gmc (the real chevy),dodge, toyota, and ford trucks. If I was king for a day I would own a ford truck, dodge/cummings engine with the looks of a chevy/gmc. However, you know I cannot do that directly from the dealership. Hands down the Ford makes the best truck. I perfer the F250-450 Superduty (2001-2003 7.3 PSD). Although the 6.0 has more juice, the longevity is with the 7.3. Now for the new 6.4 PSD it is a bitch to tune up the torque and hp. I could smoke all four of my 38 x 15.5 38 inch tires and eat Titans for lunch.

Now for the Yota Tacoma, I am only 5'11" and the headroom is just lacking in all toyota trucks, except for the new Tundra. If I did not need a real/large truck to pull and haul massive amounts of stuff go for the Tundra.

The quality of the Dodge Mega Cab/standard trucks is piss-poor. The Chevys just don't last. Yeah, yeah the Allison tranny is awesome as long as you do not hop up your HP/Torque. The Ford tranny sucks, unless you get a real/billet torque converter, etc.

I also like my F150 NASCAR edition p/u, which I run all synthetic fluids have had zero problems. Just my two cents. As for you guys that own the aforementioned trucks no dis-respect and after owning 28 vehicles of each of the manufacturers I am giving my experiences/two cents. Cheers:u
