In my never ending quest for a good cheap cigar, I am going to have to move the price point up a notch. A $3.25 Perdomo lot 23 meets all my desires. The question is, can I find something acceptable for less money. I have been smoking the Famous Nicaraguan 3000, and while it is admirable in many ways, it is coming up short in taste. Maybe close to a La Finca long filler cigar. So, I want (crave) more Esteli ligero. The 3000 has little of it.
Would the 4000, 5000, 6000, 7000 have more of what I am seeking?

hello Matt,

Would you go more in depth about the 3000 coming up short on taste?

thank you,
cheers, m.a.d.
I think it has good taste. It is my choice for cigars under the 2.25 price point. It does not have as much of the Esteli Ligero taste as I would prefer. So, the only question, can anyone compare the other Famous line to the 3000? I will order some singles anyway I think, just curious if anyone else has tried them.

Havent had any of them. I have a 3000 in my humi, maybe I should smoke it?

And I understand what you mean by the Esteli Nicaraguan tobacco. Perdomo does and excellent job at hallmarking that sort of taste. IMHO it's a creamy sort of zing that gives Nicaraguan puros the edge it needs.
Exactly! I can taste it in the Perdomo Lot 23, in the Padron 3000, in the Punch Uppercut. I don't like Nicaraguan cigars that get their ligero from the other Nicaraguan tobacco regions, as they seem too bland. The Perdomo Lot 23 has all Esteli filler tobacco. Wonderful taste. The Perdomo Fresco also gets all its filler tobacco from the Esteli region of Nicaragua - it has little taste, I assume it has very little ligero.

I can taste it in the Cain F, I smoked my first last night. This makes the cigar taste good. It is lacking in the Oliva V, Oliva G. The Rocky Patel Edge has all Honduran ligero - it tastes earthy, and is not a taste I like.

I tried a Cain F last night. Very, very nice, but I can't afford to put this in my rotation. I tried a Casa Magna at lunch, it failed my taste test (purely subjective). I ordered a single CI legends Perdomo, one Nica Libre, and one Famous Nicaraguan 4000. I will have to order a bundle on the 7000, no singles available. They get one shot to make it into my permanent rotation.

I do like the Perdomo Lot 23 as well. I tried the Fresco and disliked it... a lot lol.

I like the Perdomo Slow Aged Natural. I am not sure about the ligero content but I do know it was cheap and very tasty! I didn't like the maduro as much.

I thought my Slow Ageds were harsh. I microwaved them, initially too much, at 40 seconds. Then, I did four at a time for forty seconds. Tons of ammonia came out, and now they taste good. I did a single Famous Nicaraguan 3000 tonight for 12 seconds, and it was much improved. I like both the Slow Aged maduro and natural about equally, I think aging or lack thereof, is a more important determinant of the cigar quality.

I think the tobacco in the Slow Aged is good, but they are not aged adequately at the factory. Patience with a humidor would probably be a good idea.

You should consider the Value Line Nic 100. It smokes like a Pepin, a little spice up front, woody and earthy. I got some on auction for under 2 dollars each. Well worth it.
