As I start to gather more and more cigars, I'm getting ready to do some long term aging. I was wondering why dress boxes are looked at as inferior for aging? Am I better off taking cigars out of their dress box and putting them in cedar trays for long term naps? Or is it not that big of a deal?

I don't think there is anything wrong with aging in DB... I have several DB and the cigars in them are ageing fine. I think that people prefer certian cigars in Cabs....like Party Shorts. Hope this helps

Just goes to show that the SEARCH function DOES work :D .
I was trying to find something on this subject and here it is! The reason being I was reading CA on the weekend (Jan/Feb 2005 Edition), in the Connoisseur's Corner James Suckling wrote a review on a Bolivar Belicoso Fino (1995) which he gave a rating of 95. The introduction to the article mentioned that the Bolie was stored in a "Dress Box, not a Cabinet (the preferred type of packaging for long-term aging)".

This thread has gone along those lines but not really answered my question as to WHY? If anyone may be able to give me some feed back or an opinion even I would apreciate it.

Cheers
Jason, still noobin it up on CS :D

I am trying to keep my hands off of the lower row of any dress boxes I get. I try to keep 1/2 the sticks for aging. What I did was turn the box upside down so the sticks rested on the cedar divider instead of the paper on the bottom of the box. I really doubt it makes a difference but what the hey. Also I am going to start rotating the top row to the bottom so I my stash is the top row, which I understand are usually the better constructed smokes (for viewing). Again, dumb and a.. retentive but hey it's a hobby. Have fun.
