My guy at the local B&M gave me a couple of cohiba madura 5's and sure enough they had the wrong number of rows of white dots. I am not even sure he is aware that they are fake. He is not the most knowledgeable about cigars. He though a triple maduro was just made with 3 maduro leafs. I think I will stick with my oliva series v and camacho triple maduros(my 2 favorites)

He showed me the box with the seal and everything.

The cigar was pretty good

I've smoked one fauxhiba in my life. Was it good? NO! Did I say anything to the fine gentlemen who gifted me this cigar? NO! Would I smoke it again if in the same situation? ABSOLUTELY!

A guy at work came in all excited a few weeks ago. Seems that his buddy went on a cruise and brought back some "Cubans."

They weren't.

I didn't say anything to him as he was really excited for them.

^I hate when that happens, many a time I watched a friend smoke a fake cohiba, drove me nuts but I didn't want to ruin the mood of the gathering or seem like a snob.

Just got back from a trip to Puerto Vallarta and a girl on the trip joined us after a day of shopping in the outdoor markets of Bucerias, north of Nuevo Vallarta. She had bought her boyfriend some of the fake Cohibas and I mentioned that they were likely counterfeit. They were fakes for certain but it made me feel like some asshole know-it-all to see her smile turn to a frown. Had I said nothing, them being non-smokers, he likely would have received them and smoked them happily and went on with life. I wasn't a jerk about it but still, I felt terrible. Lesson learned.

Don't feel bad. I would have done the same. Education on what is correct is always best.

Exactly what you just said.

How many times should you allow someone to get screwed before telling them? What if the guy thought it'd be a great idea to get these "amazing" cigars for all their friends? Nipping it in the bud, in my opinion, is the best course of action.

Have a quick read of this for a bunch of other great reasons why:

Valid points all. I think breaking the news in a quick 1-1 conversation as opposed to offhandedly mentioning them as fakes in front of our whole group (5 or 6 of us) would have lessened the sting of the embarrassment she felt. I agree that the truth should always be pointed out but it sure felt bad this time.
