Fellow Apes, thought this thread heading might get your attention. Actually this is more about committment. When you start ascending the slippery slope one of the things you notice is the time committment that you have to make,... it takes a awhile out of your day to smoke a good cigar. You basically have to put the everyday concerns of your life on the back burner, at the same time the experience provides the time to reflect on whatever is important to us. Considering that I started smoking cigars as a purely hedonistic experience it came as a bit of a revelation about what the time I spent indulging my hobby actually meant to me. Havent cured cancer or arrived at a solution to peace in the Middle East but I havent gone Postal either. Frank B

I totally agree. My evening cigar (weather permitting) gives me a chance to relax, contemplate, ponder, what have you. Haven't solved any world problems, either, but I find I kick the dog less than I used to. ;)

Total agreement Frank, that's one of the first things that attracted me to cigars, it forces you to do nothing for an hour. For a while now I wake up an hour early and get that quiet time all to myself each day- I love it!

There have been times when I would get home from work burned out (pissed off) and grabbed a big cigar. I would start off by smoking it fast but by the second 3rd of the cigar I had calmed down and slowed the pace. By the time I finish, I think man did I ever need that cigar.

You struck a chord there, FrankB. I started smoking more or less as a pastime. After a few years I began to realize that it became more than a pastime. The time I spend smoking is time for reflection. It's pretty darn near meditation. Cigars mark high and low points for me and I assume many of you too. They sure can make a bad day better. I can think of a number of occasions after a particularly stressful day at the U, lighting up and letting all the crap go for an hour. Afterwards I was able to focus and get the work done. A cigar forces me to slow down, unclutter my mind, find out what's bothering me the most at the time and find a way to fix it.

Nice thread.

Every evening I get my alone time outside with a smoke and a drink. My wife at first complained but saw how relaxed I've been afterwards she sometimes will push me out even if I wasn't going.

Ditto to all the posts. My day is planned around when I am going to have my cigar..I love to go to the casino and have a couple while I'm losing my arse. Yesterday I bought a Gurka for the first time and totally enjoyed the experience....

I do the majority of my smoking out back. If only I could convince my neighbors to stop racing their RC cars non-stop in the evenings and weekends my cigar time would be much more enjoyable. It sounds like dueling weed eaters around my place. Those suckers are LOUD!

I'll probably start spending more of my cigar time in the car with a good CD...or perhaps start using headphones in the backyard.
