Cuba - home of the cigar - bans smoking in public

The news from the Caribbean was distressing yesterday for die-hard smokers trying to hold back the tide of anti-tobacco laws. Cuba, which for decades has been associated with the rolling and consumption of fine cigars, is abruptly joining the ranks of countries around the world taking steps to outlaw lighting up in public spaces.

Cigars are as synonymous with Cuba as whisky is with Scotland but from 7 February smoking will be prohibited in theatres, shops, restaurants, buses, taxis and other enclosed public areas.

Could someone explain WHY Castro would do something like this? Seems like that's the only reason to go to cuba anyway. hehe
