You can normally pick up a cheap ash tray from any local cigar shop. Or, if you're tired of using a dish try a scotch glass. I use one all the time when there's no ash tray. The glass is small enough to place your cigar on and it's deep enough to hold the ash if there's wind.

I too smoke on my balcony, and have an ashtray that I keep outside. I use a wide mouth mason jar with a lid. That way when I'm done I can close it up and my neighbors wont complain about that stale tobacco smell.
