I mainly smoke Penzance, Blackwoods flake and Stonehaven. None of these tobaccos have a pleasant room note. Is there a reason why good tobaccos smell like :BS?

My top pipes are tasting not sour, but a little ashy. After a couple of bowels. Where a new pipe its not noticed. What should I do? Send them out for a total clean out?? If so how often? Thanks
