What do you all use in a pinch for tamping? I've got a huge supply of golf tees which I prefer to more expensive tampers since I don't mind losing them. I've also pressed into use pens, nails, screws and pieces of my son's Tinker Toys set.

since i just have a yello bole pipe tool i was wondering if you guys with the wood ones can tell me what length tamper is suitable? the pen blanks i have are 6 in by 3/4 so i can make 4 in ones and glue the cut off together making a 3rd one. i have cooper tube caps in both 1/2" for bigger pipes...
