  1. The Pipe Hobby How-To Discussion Forum
Hello all fellow puffers. I am still rather new at pipe smoking and have acquired a Dr. Grabow Riviera from a friend of mine. It's a decent enough pipe but it was treated very poorly. For one, it had a pretty bad cake in the chamber which I've since reamed. The other issue is that the pipe...

Well I just finished this up...I think I over-paid a bit for it, but I am OK with it  For those of you who don't know, I have been hunting for a Custombilt for a while now, and when I found this one and saw the shape it was in, I decided to pull the trigger. When it arrived, it...

So I picked up some of these Alpha-Abrassives sanding/finishing pads for around 8 bucks, and I have to say they are a much cheaper and efficient means of shining a pipe stem to the Micro Mesh! It took around 45 minutes a stem not including the Simple Green bath. I could of spent more time on...

So I picked up 3 classic estate pipes from a private dealer earlier this month. All of them are pre-1955 and in great condition for how much age they have on them. I was able to haggle all 3 of them down to under 9 bucks a piece too! :thumb: The insides of these things were nasty! And two of...

Hello! I recently purchased an estate Demuth SnapKleen briar pipe, and even though I knew the stem and shank didn't meet flush I still liked the pipe and thought get it with an attempt to fix it myself. I've done a few pipe restorations but am new to the game and haven't encountered something...

So I recently bought a bunch of estate pipes on ebay figuring I would try my hand at pipe restoration. So I figured I would share the results (before pics are on the left, and after are on the right). Up first is a Dr Grabow in a rusticated apple(?) shape Next is a Ned's Classic in a pot...

I'm looking at a beautiful large humidor, absolutely gorgeous. But, it's been neglected for many years and the smell of mold is strong. Is there anything I can do to bring it back to life? What would I need to do, sand down all the internal cedar surfaces? I wouldn't put a cigar anywhere...

Alrighty fellas. I've been planning to restore this pipe I have. It has a nice set of cracks, burned rim, a few dings, bad finish job... lets face it, it looks like its been through hades and back. But I get reealllyy attached to my pipes. Its got lots of sentimental value and I like its shape...

I'm a little confused after reading some posts and and watching a video. It has to do with the order of step on cleaning the pipe. Do you ream the pipe first or clean it with alcohol first and then ream it? Got an inexpensive pipe that I'd like to spiff up a bit.

Is there anyway to tighten up the metal insert? It's got the threaded stringer (?). I have a pipe that when it's tight is canted at an angle because to get it tight you have to turn it slightly past center for the stem. How are these inserted into the stem? Is there a way to pull it out and...

I recently stole these Kirsten pipes from the bay and had to share with you guys. They are Kirsten pipes one appears to be a first generation straight (1936-1938 possibly maybe a little older I need to do some more research) and the other one appears to be a companion pipe also by Kirsten mid...

i got two carey pipes from owaindav a while back, and in mentioning pipe restoration, he sent a tag-a-long dr grabow riviera for me to practice with, he stated it was in bad contition, however i didnt think it was too bad, so after doin a lil searching, on how to restore, i took a magic eraser...

I had a question about this... I came upon a brand new box of Partagas Mille Fleurs about 2 years ago... I thought I'd lost them, so when I finally got a humidor about 6 months ago, I was kind of bummed out:violin:... well... I finally found them and I'm really happy about this... except I'm...

Just got done watching "The Godfather" trilogy on blu-ray and just had to make a post. I'm not going to go into any details about the movies themselves, as anyone who has seen them can most likely quote from them and I am not one to give many details about a movie to someone who has not already...

Alright, so during my last visit up to MI to visit my Fiance's parents, I noticed that they have an old blue 1969 Camaro that is no longer in use, and probably never will used again. From what I can tell, body is in superb condition, especially for as long as its been sitting. The interior...

At a loss. I have a couple of stems, from an ebay frenzy, that are oxidized. How can I restore them to where they are black and shiny, instead of what ever color that is.

Hi Everyone, After reading some of the threads on cleaning and restoring pipes I decided to give it a go with this early KBB Kaywoodie with a push on tenon and large 4 hole stinger. It had a thick, thick layer of cake in it that I decided to ream out with a...

(Sorry for this long post, but please read as there are some good sticks in danger!) Okay so here's the situation... About 2 months ago I bought a very nice Savoy Humidor... ...and love it to death. Now, there's a few questions I have and a small problem... Question 1: When filling the...

I've recently come across some very sentimental lighters. They were owned by my grandfather who passed nearly 20 years ago. I know very little about them except for a few markings. They are made in Japan and have "SKKK" on the underside, with three stars adorning the initials. I assume these...
