New Jersey currently sports the sixth highest cigarette tobacco tax in the United States, at $2.70 a pack (in addition to the federal tax of $1.01 a pack). Now they want to cash in on little cigars, cigars, loose leaf and smokeless tobaccos, with some advocates of the tax lobbying for...
I have about 2 dozen pipes. My nicest pipes are Petersons, Savinellis and a Stanwell (all nice pipes). I just ordered an estate Peterson from the Sherlock Holmes series, which are very nice pipes. However, lately I've been thinking of adding a higher end pipe ($150-250 range).
Specifically...
Are cigars more forgiving of over-humidification or under-humidification?
I like my cigars at 65%.
I am in the process if seasoning the drawers in the new Edgestar and noticed that I am rock-solid 65% when the until isn't running; however, once the unit turns on, I drop to 61-63% Now, I...
OK, so I've learned that I really need to smoke my CCs at lower RH. But I still don't feel quite comfortable aging them at such low RH.
So, the boxes that I have set aside in my grand stash are aging at 69% RH (using 1 Boveda packets per box or two).
Question 1: Do you think it's OK to age CCs...
I've been thinking about if I had to smoke exclusively 3 cigars from 3 different price points and nothing else, what would they be? And although I had a somewhat difficult time deciding, here's what my list would consist of:
Budget Smoke: Diesel Unholy Cocktail. For about $3.25 this cigar...
Well I got my new ConservaGel beads. I now have 1 rectangular humidifier with Heartfelt, and 1 with ConservaGel.
The humidity was my normal 68% (bother are 65% beads). I attached them to the lid of the humidor and the hygrometer was reading 72-73%. Interesting... The beads aren't overly...
I typically think that a higher relative humidity is optimal for fermenting and sweating out more ammonia during storage. Somewhere around 78-72%. We all know that the draw can be tough on a cigar at that level as can lighting so I like to keep my go-to humidor that is for cigars ready to...
For an over seas auction, at least. LOL
Still a gorgeous pipe, so I thought I'd let you guys in on it!

I am in the mood for vapors. Picked it up off smokingpipes. The thing I hate about buying online is the wait. I did save around $25 by buying online instead of at a B&M.
I've read a lot of threads on puff.com about aging and desired humidity levels. But I don't think this question has ever been addressed.
I just bought a 300-ct humidor for "aging". My goal is to age my cigars 12-18 months before I smoke them.
I usually keep my humidors at 65-67% RH...
Saw this mentioned in another thread and believe it deserves an open discussion.
I agree 100% with how Bongoy stated it. There are people out there who actually come to the site for information, not just to BS around. Being able to make friends and carry on conversation is an added bonus. As a...
Is there a chance of beetle infestation at higher (75-77 degrees) temperatures after the cigars have been frozen for an extended time (4-5 days at 20 degrees)?
I just read the following article on Reuters and immediately thought of the similarities between cigar smokers and wine drinkers. While I do expect a higher priced cigar to be higher quality, I try to prevent the price from affecting my judgment of the taste and pleasure of the smoke, but it...
Geez... wonder if my membership is still valid here? Hello again from a gorilla who hasn't posted in ages (months)... and hasn't smoked in almost as long (d'oh!). A new job and some new life circumstances leave me little time for mannish pursuits such as cigar smoking (and *sniff* almost no...
Got this off Cigar Aficionado.
The U.S. House of Representatives voted yesterday to approve an additional $35 billion in funding for the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). The funding would come from higher taxes on cigarettes and cigars. The legislation has been vigorously...
