You guys with massive inventory.....

Do you have insurance for your collection? Looking through the pics of some of the stashes around here I have to wonder what the cost would be if you lost everything due to fire/flood/etc....

Would homeowners cover your loss? How do you put a value on it? My collection pales in comparison to most around here, but the value is ever changing as I smoke some and buy some.

Re: You guys with massive inventory.....

I believe homeowners would cover it as long as you claim it as a lost collectable.

disclaimer: I am a just a guy with too many cigars and too many guns, what ever I say is probably wrong. PM me if you are in the 916 and want to herf

You'd do better calling your agent than asking here. Different policies have different coverages.

We rent a house. My renters covers my cigars. I made sure to ask. It also covers all my firearms.

Edit: Yet another reason I keep an updated inventory of all my cigars on my home computer, work computer and a flash drive.

Re: You guys with massive inventory.....

I've seen it mentioned in another thread recently, but as Derek said, it's definitely something you'll need to ask your insurance company about.

I know one person said he called and would only cover the first $500 of his stash, but other might do more. Or you might be able to get a custom policy for it, either way, checking with your insurance company itself would be your best bet.

Or, I can insure them for you, just send them all to me and I'll make sure nothing happens to them all at once

This is true. I work in the industry and one other factor you need to ask about is the CAUSE of loss. Fire and theft are common and usually covered, but things like bettles, temp/humidity issues b/c of power outage or such may not be. Flood is practically universally EXCLUDED unless you have a separate policy.

Also, it should not be an issue with cigars, but it is common specialty items (guns, jewelry, ect) while covered have a limit PER PIECE.

The NRA provides gun insurance to members which can help if you own several. Possibly there is something similar in a tobacco advocate organization?

Re: You guys with massive inventory.....

I have a stocked cabinet full of sticks but worry about my pipe collection more. I have a couple hundred pieces that Ive collected over the last 15 years that could not be easily replaced in terms of finances or practicailty. Thanks for raising the issue though, ill definitely run it past my agent when we next speak.
