Never even heard of these clowns.
I’m from the Bob Backlund, Strongbow, Shiek, Snuka, André, George Steel, Hogan era, the 80’s. Back then it was all action, minimal smack talk.
We’d come back into the city all buzzed after a perpetual Patriots loss, grab some greasy cheesesteaks, and go to the Garden when wrestling was in town. Hilarious.
After college, my still best friend was a photographer for the Boston Globe and did all the Garden events. He’d give me an empty camera and we’d be sideline for all Bruins, Celtics, concerts, etc. once we did the rasslin’ night. Up close, it was unbelievably obvious how fake it was. We were laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe. A WWF suit came and told us if we didn’t stop, we’d have to leave.

My father loved wrestling we only got it on the UHF channels at first.
Bruno my all time favorite.
In 1959, Sammartino set a world record in the bench press with a lift of 565 pounds, done without elbow or wrist wraps.
I was born that year and grew up watching wrestling with my Dad.
He did for wrestling what Elvis did for Music.
We saw him many times In Brooklyn at the Roll a Rama.
A kind gentle humble man that loved people especially children.
He used to let kids in for free at all his events.
No matter what their age.
I even got an autographed picture.
I was about 7 or 8 years old wish i knew what happened to it.

I grew up watching CWA/Memphis region wrestling with Jerry Lawler, long before he jumped to the WWF. I remember sitting in front of our cabinet TV on weekend mornings listening to Lance Russell and Dave Brown call the matches. Bill Dundee and The Fabulous Ones were some of my favorites back then.

And, of course, I watched WWF in its first heyday, with Hogan, Andre the Giant, King Kong Bundy, Junkyard Dog, etc. My favorite of all time was Macho Man. I remember when Wrestlemania was a big freakin' deal--the kind of thing you'd rent at the video store even though you knew what happened already.

Len Rossi began in the 1950’s, I watched him wrestle on TV when I was 6 years old. We became good friends 25 years ago, he has some great stories to tell even today. Man how wrestling has changed. He will be 89 next month.
